The federal government is considering a proposal to reduce ministers’ and other cabinet members’ petrol expenses in the next fiscal year’s budget.
According to high-level sources, the government is preparing various proposals to cut expenditures in response to pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, the government is expected to reduce federal ministers’ and other cabinet members’ petrol-related expenditures.
According to sources, the government spends an average of Rs. 2-5.3 million per month on petrol for cabinet members.
350Ltr of gasoline for Cabinet members
Cabinet members are allowed 350 litres of gasoline per month for vehicles with engine displacements of up to 1500 cc, while members with land cruisers, BMWs, and Jeeps are allowed 900 litres.
Previously, cabinet members could get 580 litres of petrol per month on vehicles with up to 1500 cc engines and 1500 litres on vehicles like Land Cruisers, BMWs, and Jeeps.
Average spending of Rs. 98,000/month
A minister spends an average of Rs. 98,000 per month on petrol for a small 1500-cc car.
Currently, there are 21 federal ministers, state ministers, special assistants, and advisors, including 18 federal ministers, one adviser to the prime minister, one SAPM, and one state minister, sources said. It should be noted that the IMF has asked the government to reduce spending.
