If you misplace your Android device, the Android Device Manager can help you track it down. You may locate your missing device from a web browser or another Android smartphone, and then ring it, set a password, or delete all data from it. What if, though, you are unable to use your computer or any of your other Android devices? The latest version of Android Device Manager addresses this issue.
You can now use a friend’s phone to track down your Android device
Instead of racing home to your computer, you can use your friend’s Android to track for your missing gadget. So, what’s the catch? If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?! ), you’ll need to enter a backup code in order to log in. Just do it!) This is just a polite reminder that you should print down the codes and have them handy at all times.
This is how to locate your device if you have access to the backup codes:
The first thing you need to do is launch Android Device Manager (or install it for your friend) and then select their username from the list. Choosy Guest.
Second, log in with your regular Gmail address and password, just as you would at home. Type in a backup code where it asks for two-step verification.
Please note that each code has a one-time use only. Furthermore, once a new set of codes is generated, the old set becomes invalid. This is where you may go to see and make backup codes.
Third, select the device you need to find and then decide on the appropriate course of action. Sign out at the top when you’re finished.
Even though it’s an extra step, remembering your backup codes could help you track down your device if you misplace it when you’re not near your computer.
