According to a top officer in charge of security arrangements, the government has planned to detain PTI Chairman Imran Khan and the top party leadership on their trip to Islamabad from Peshawar on Wednesday (today).
According to reports, the authorities reviewed parts of the detention following thorough talks with many agencies but ultimately decided to employ all resources to carry out the plan.
“Though it appears an unfeasible task to arrest them during the long march yet the government has no option but to detain them to stop possible carnage,” the sources maintained.
According to intelligence reports, PTI activists would be well-equipped to face any opposition from law enforcement agencies, and government authorities are well aware of the scenario, which means a clash will not be avoided in these circumstances.
Imran Khan promised on Tuesday to reach Islamabad at all costs, condemning the crackdown on party workers, particularly in Punjab, to prevent them from taking part in the long march.
“We will reach Islamabad at all costs and will stay there till the dissolution of the National Assembly and announcement of date for holding free and fair elections in the country,” he told reporters at the Chief Minister’s House in Islamabad.
The PTI Chairman used the Afghan people (Taliban) as an example, claiming that the Afghans fought foreign powers and forced them to depart the nation.
He asked people to break free from fear and come out in support of a “true Azadi” (freedom).
According to The News, Imran Khan and the PTI Central leadership have been in Peshawar since last Friday devising a strategy against the government and mobilizing party activists to assure their participation in the ‘Azadi March.’
