Google made no mention of the foldable Pixel smartphone that has been rumored for months during this year’s Google I/O. This is the same foldable that was rumored to cost around $1,400 at launch and was dubbed the Pixel Notepad.
Pixel’s revolutionary foldable device has been delayed again more, according to a fresh story from The Elec. People familiar with the project suggest that “the postponement presumably boils down to the product not being as perfect as Google wishes,” according to the report. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard something like this. Furthermore, according to the insiders, Google was in talks with Samsung Display about the Notepad.
According to a source from November of last year, Google’s foldable gadget will not be released until the second half of 2022, as evidenced by Google’s cancellation of parts for its foldable smartphone. According to the DSCC investigation, Google did not believe the product was competitive enough.
The Pixel Notepad was expected to employ Samsung Display panels with a main internal display of 7.57 inches and an external secondary display of 5.78 inches, both using Samsung’s UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) design.
Samsung was previously said to have set a target of 15 million foldable handsets to ship globally by the end of this year, with the new foldable set to be released later this year accounting for the rest. Samsung has begun mass manufacture of components for its two foldable gadgets, the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4, according to reports.
In the end, Google never said whether or not a Pixel foldable would be released, and it never said when it would be released – all of the previously projected launch dates were based on rumors and guesswork. According to recent sources, Google is ready to wait until its product is up to par before competing with other foldable from big OEMs.
