A transparent sachet composed of chloride and seaweed that holds one portion of water is known as an edible water bottle. It is biodegradable and can even be consumed.
‘Ooho’ by Skipping Rocks Lab is an edible water bottle created out of 100% biodegradable brown algae that is an environmental-friendly alternative to plastic bottles.
A London-based start-up has devised a novel way to reduce plastic waste: edible water spheres that do away with the need for containers. The “Ooho” spheres feature a jelly-like membrane consisting of plant and seaweed extracts that will degrade in four to six weeks if not ingested.
“We can put nearly any liquid inside an Ooho!” according to the business, including fresh juices, sauces, condiments, energy and soft drinks, beer, wine, spirits, and even cosmetics.
According to Skipping Rocks Lab, their patented substance is already less expensive than plastic.
While plastic bottles take between 450 and 1,000 years to decompose, edible water bubbles take only six weeks on average to decompose.
Ooho! is a campaign that wants to help the globe eliminate all plastic waste from cups and bottles. Let us not forget that each year, nearly one billion plastic bottles enter the world’s five oceans.
