Google’s Gemini AI models were unveiled in December of last year, and they power both Samsung’s Galaxy S24 family and its own Pixel devices.
Given that the massive Cupertino company is thinking in collaborating with Google as well, this licencing agreement might also cover iPhones.
With its impending iOS 18 upgrade, which is scheduled to launch alongside the iPhone 16 series in September, Apple intends to incorporate generative AI features.
Although the origins of Apple’s generative AI features has remained a secret, Google’s popular Gemini AI could suddenly hold the key.
Apple and Google are reportedly in talks about Apple potentially licencing Google’s generative AI models, according to a report from Bloomberg. But Apple is also considering utilising OpenAI’s GPT models, so Gemini is not the only option available.
However, previous contradictory reports have indicated that Apple’s generative AI elements will be implemented through its own large language model (LLM), which is purportedly named Ajax.
Apple is purportedly losing millions of dollars a day on Ajax’s training. Apple has recently been expanding its presence in the AI sector by acquiring AI firms left and right.
However, Cupertino is anticipated to use a licencing mechanism to introduce generative AI features with iOS 18.
Apple and Google presently have a substantial search engine deal, which reportedly earns Apple more than $18 billion every year.
However, any official comments about this breakthrough are unlikely until June’s WWDC, when Apple is expected to reveal iOS 18.
