Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan’s left-handed opening batsman, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan’s left-arm bowler, have received batting and bowling accolades, respectively, at the ESPNcricinfo Awards.
Last year at the Wanderers Stadium, the aggressive opening batter hammered 193 runs from 155 balls against South Africa’s formidable bowling attack. In the ODI batting category, he earned the ESPNcricinfo award for his performance.
Fakhar produced his best while chasing a large total of 342 runs against the home team, when other Pakistani batsmen failed to perform. 18 fours and ten sixes were among his 193 runs.
Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah was recognised in the bowling category by ESPNcricinfo for his destructive spell against India in the T20 World Cup 2021. Pakistan defeated India for the first time in T20 World Cup history thanks to Shaheen’s magical spell of 3-31.
In his first spell, Shaheen Shah sent both Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, back to the pavilion with immaculate in-swingers. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, put up a fight in the middle but was eventually dismissed by Shaheen with a slower bouncer. The bowler was awarded the ESPNcricinfo award for T20I bowling for this amazing spell.
Furthermore, at the 15th edition of the ESPNcricinfo Awards, Indian batsman Rishabh Pant (89 against Australia) and Kyle Jamieson (5 for 31 in the first World Test Championship final) won the Test batting and bowling awards, respectively, while Kane Williamson got the best captaincy award.
