Dr. Nasir Mahmood has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). Dr. Nasir is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at AIOU.
Dr. Nasir has been given the responsibility of AIOU’s VC for three months, according to an official notification issued by Joint Secretary HEC (Policy), Raja Muhammad Akhtar Iqbal.
With this, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Education Minister, has relinquished his position as Acting VC of AIOU. Last week, the Minister was appointed as Acting VC.
According to Section 11 (2) of the AIOU Act 1974, Rana Tanveer Hussain has been appointed as the Acting VC of AIOU, according to the Education Ministry.
Previously, AIOU’s regional centre in southern Balochistan’s capital and CPEC’s flagship seaport, Gwadar, was inaugurated, complete with cutting-edge internet technology.
Rana Tanveer Hussain attended the campus’ ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking it as the 54th AIOU regional centre in the country.
Rana Tanveer, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, will make history when he takes over as Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University on November 23. Prior to him, no education minister had ever served as vice chancellor of a public-sector university.
It is worth noting that the federal education minister serves as pro-chancellor, and the president serves as chancellor of federal universities. Dr Zia-ul Qayyum’s four-year tenure as VC comes to an end on November 22.
