A fleet of 30 electric buses will be deployed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on a dozen new routes in Islamabad. A government official stated that the buses would arrive in the city within two months, and that the failure to open LCs was to blame for the delay.
He stated the buses had already been made, so all that was left was the AI work, which could take weeks because most of the necessary technology would have to be shipped in from Turkey. These buses will then depart from China towards Pakistan.
Agreement signed between CDA and Chinese organization
According to news, a CDA official, once the tranche is finalised between the municipal Federal Government and the Chinese manufacturer, 130 buses would be delivered by the end of 2023.
Because of low levels of foreign currency reserves, the central bank suspended LCs, delaying payments. Once the LCs are established, the funds will be transferred, the report said.
These buses would be operated on 13 new routes by the CDA contractor and the National Radio and Telecommunications Corporation (NRTC). According to the agreement, the CDA will pay NRTC between Rs. 306-331 per kilometre. The primary paths are as follows:
Aabpara to Taramri Chowk
Nilor to Khanna Pul
Pirwadhai Chowk to Faizabad
B-17 to 26 Number Chungi
I-16 to 26 Number Chungi
