The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon introduce electric buses for intracity travel. Electric buses will be used on six different public transportation routes, according to CDA officials. The department will also provide space for bus charging stations.
On October 12th, the CDA will issue a tender for bus consultancy. The first batch of electric buses is expected to arrive in Islamabad by the end of December. The CDA will construct three e-bus base stations.
The introduction of electric buses has been on the CDA’s agenda for several years. The department also recently began testing these buses in the Twin Cities. According to the most recent reports, a tangible follow-up to those plans may be on the way.
Route Expansion Strategy
The CDA plans to launch 13 new bus routes in two phases. The first phase, according to CDA Chairman Capt. (Retd.) Usman Younis, will see the provision of transportation on six congested routes. The administration will purchase buses for seven additional routes in the second phase, he added.
Younis also stated that once the IJP road is completed, the CDA will begin a route from Faizabad to Pir Wadhai. He went on to say that PIMS will serve as the new routes’ hub, connecting them to Red Line and Orange Line Metro buses.
Meanwhile, the CDA is assessing the viability of all routes and preparing tender documents for various contractors. According to the department, its goal is to reduce people’s reliance on private modes of transportation in order to save fuel and the environment.
