The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has purchased drones as part of its efforts to increase monitoring of the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) in the face of increasing forest fire incidents.
The development was revealed during a recent briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change by officials from the CDA and the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).
During the briefing, Chairperson IWMB Rina Satti informed the committee that famous model and TikTok influencer Dolly set fire to a section of the forest near the Hazara Motorway for the purpose of filming a promotional video.
She also stated that the investigation into a separate wildfire incident has been completed, and three people involved in it have been arrested, with further investigation underway. Some days ago, a fire incident happened just to shoot the private video ad, they burnt the forest for a cinematic background.
The chairperson of the IWMB stated that people are responsible for 90% of forest fires this season and that none of the incidents have occurred in MHNP this year.
Irfan Niazi, Director of Environment CDA, claimed that CDA firemen have helped KPK authorities put out forest fires three times this season.
