The young Pakistani athletes who competed in the World Taekwondo Octagon Diamond Games 2023 in Korea did their country well. Asifa Ali, a phenomenal boxer, won the 49 kilogramme division and brought honour to his country.
Asifa Ali is a student at Seoul National University, where she is majoring in Global Sports Management in addition to her athletic endeavours. Other notable competitors, including Hamza Saeed, Aqdasullah Qadeer, and Naila, also brought home bronze medals from the World Taekwondo Octagon Diamond Games.
Pakistan did well in Taekwondo Octagon Diamond Games
In the semi-finals, Saeed went off against Korean opponent Ryong Woo Li. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to defeat Li and fell behind, 2-0. But Hamza Saeed played admirably in the earlier rounds, especially in his 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ashraf.
Bronze medals in the Poomsae Event at the World Taekwondo Beach Championship G-2 went to Aqdasullah Qadeer and Naila. Pakistani squash player Nauman Khan won the 2023 Asian Junior Squash Individual Championship in China earlier this week.
Both Ahmad Rayyan Khalil (U-13) and Abdullah Nawaz (U-17) medaled in the same event, with Ahmad securing silver and Nawaz claiming bronze.
