Elon Musk, the billionaire, will speak to Twitter staff at a meeting this week, the company revealed Tuesday, in what will be his first public appearance since launching his tumultuous $44 billion offer for the social media platform.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, and it comes as Musk is at odds with Twitter’s leadership over the service’s user counts, which has cast doubt on the buyout.
“We can confirm this is true and happening,” Twitter tweeted of the gathering.
Since Musk’s takeover announcement in April, Twitter has been torn apart by doubts about its future, as well as fears about being governed by the volatile Tesla CEO.
Musk has campaigned for a less stringent stance on what users can post on Twitter, and has stated that he would reverse the platform’s controversial ban on former US President Donald Trump.
Musk’s proposed takeover of Twitter has sparked outrage among detractors, who fear that his leadership could fuel hate groups and disinformation efforts.
Musk threatened to pull his bid when Twitter failed to provide data on false accounts, but the business has since agreed to give him access, according to reports.
Musk’s interrogation of Twitter bots has been interpreted by some as a tactic of bringing the acquisition process to a close or pressuring Twitter to drop its price.
