There are currently a lot more advertising than there used to be on YouTube videos, and it may soon be more difficult to escape them. The video-sharing site has admitted it is experimenting with a “redesigned” ad skip button that is even less noticeable.
This new button will be smaller and harder to see, which is bad enough. YouTube claims it will be more transparent and have smaller text. The term “Ads” will not be capitalised, and the button will be curved for a more contemporary design.
According to YouTube, the new button will:
We are currently experimenting with a new look for the ‘Skip Ads’ button on all of our platforms. Our intention is to offer a more uniform interface in accordance with the new YouTube design that was unveiled last year.
YouTube’s ad view rates, reach, and conversions, and Google’s overall ad revenue, can all benefit from this “improved” button design. This is because if the skip ad button doesn’t stand out, less users will use it.
Thomas Eccel, a Google Ads expert, agrees:
Found a little ‘Skip advertisements’ option, apparently a beta test for Google. It’s formatted differently and is much more compact than the standard “skip” box. If implemented, this will have an impact on how successful the campaigns are and how much money is spent on them.
However, there is still reason for optimism because the feature is still in testing and may never be made available to the general public. Also, it’s not certain when the public can watch it on YouTube.
