Samsung recently lauded a competitor’s foldable smartphone on Twitter, albeit it is unclear whether this was done on purpose or not. Ryan Fenwick, an official from Oppo and OnePlus’ Global Communications team, tweeted a GIF of the Oppo Find N, noting that the phone is for those who find Android smartphones ‘boring’ and ‘all the same.’ The South Korean IT behemoth answered with a resounding ‘very ah-mazing.’
With the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold, Samsung was the first to popularize foldable smartphones. Many companies have since joined the ranks.
It’s unusual to see smartphone firms congratulating one another, especially on social media.
Samsung might be complimenting a smartphone category that it helped popularize, or it could be that the smartphone featured was from the Galaxy Z Fold series, or the business simply deems the Find N creative.
Regardless of who makes them, foldable smartphones are a technological feat. Both Oppo and Samsung, however, have a long way to go until the technology is mastered.
Nonetheless, we expect that Samsung will take the Find N as inspiration and release a more compact foldable in the Z Fold series. However, we hope that Oppo follows in the footsteps of Samsung and brings its foldable to a wide range of markets outside of China.
