AB de Villiers, former South African captain, placed high praise on Babar Azam for his excellent batting abilities and talent, just a day before the Asia Cup 2023 match against India.
De Villiers stated in an interview that the Lahore-born batsman is currently the backbone of Pakistan’s batting squad because he has been a steady performer for years.

“I love talking about Babar Azam because he is one of the best players we have ever seen play the game of cricket, not just now,” AB de Villiers said.
In response to a query on the Asia Cup match against India, de Villiers stated that Babar’s wicket will be critical if India is to gain an advantage in the game.
The former South African cricketer went on to say that the all-format captain has the capacity to keep the batting lineup together and play an important role in partnership formation.
“I met him first when he was very young but quickly realized that this guy is here to stay. He has troubled bowling attacks all around the world and in all formats,” de Villiers said.

The 39-year-old cricketer went on to remark that Pakistan has an important ODI season ahead of them, and the Men in Green rely on Babar Azam to be in top form for both of these mega-events.
It should be noted that Pakistan is playing against India in the third match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
