Hassan Ahmed Respond.io Pulls Off a $62.5M Win From Peshawar

Hassan Ahmed Respond.io, that combination is now one of the biggest Pakistani founder success stories of 2026. Ahmed, a Peshawar native who studied at the University of Peshawar, co-founded an AI-powered customer messaging platform that just closed a $62.5 million Series B funding round. The number matters more when you see the context: that single round is larger than everything Pakistan’s home startup scene raised in the whole of 2025.

Who Is Hassan Ahmed and What Does Respond.io Do?

Hassan Ahmed is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Respond.io, a customer conversation management platform headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ahmed is a proud Pashtun, originally from Peshawar, who built a career in software over more than 15 years before co-founding the company in 2017 alongside CEO Gerardo Salandra and COO Iaroslav Kudritskiy.

The company started life in Hong Kong under the name Rocketbots, focused on chatbot tools. Over time, it shifted into something much bigger, a full platform that pulls customer conversations from WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, WeChat, email, voice calls, and over 16 other channels into one place. Businesses use it to handle sales, support, and follow-ups without switching between apps all day.

Today, Respond.io processes 2 billion messages every quarter for more than 10,000 businesses in over 180 countries, including household names like Toyota, British Airways, Radisson, Hertz, and Decathlon.

The $62.5M Series B Round Explained

The funding round was announced on 16 June 2026. It was led by Camber Partners, a New York-based growth equity firm with a track record that includes early backing of Dropbox, PandaDoc, and Pipedrive. Endeavor Catalyst, whose board is chaired by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, also joined the round alongside existing investors.

What makes this round stand out is that Respond.io did not raise out of desperation. The company was already at $35 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), growing 169% year over year, with a healthy 30% profit margin. As the company put it simply: the business raised to move faster, not to survive.

The new capital will go toward expanding in North America and Europe, hiring more talent, and making strategic acquisitions in those markets. Respond.io expects the US and Europe to become its largest combined market within the next few years, a big ambition for a team that built its base across Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East first.

Hassan Ahmed Respond.io and the Pakistan Context

Here is where the story hits different for a Pakistani reader. While Hassan Ahmed and his co-founders were closing this round, startups based inside Pakistan raised roughly $36.6 million across 10 deals in all of 2025. One Series B by a company with a Pakistani CTO beat the entire home ecosystem for the year.

That gap is not a reason for shame, it is a reason for honest conversation. Ahmed built his success by going where the market was: first Hong Kong, then Kuala Lumpur. He operated in environments with better access to international investors, more mature SaaS buyer bases, and easier cross-border payment infrastructure. Pakistani engineers and founders are clearly capable of competing at the top level. The constraint is rarely talent.

This is the part most coverage misses. The story is not just about one man winning abroad. It is about what Pakistan’s ecosystem needs to build, deeper venture networks, friendlier regulation for tech companies, and faster digital payment rails, so the next Hassan Ahmed can choose to stay and build at home too. Stories like this one, covered at Respond.io and beyond, should be fuel for that conversation.

What the Platform Actually Sells

Respond.io sits in a market called conversational commerce, selling and serving customers through messaging apps instead of websites or call centres. This market was worth around $14.9 billion globally in 2024 and is forecast to reach $63.4 billion by 2034. Most consumers today prefer to message a brand on WhatsApp rather than wait on hold or fill out a web form. Respond.io built the back-end infrastructure that makes that possible at scale.

For Pakistani businesses, e-commerce shops, education platforms, travel agencies, this is directly relevant. WhatsApp is already the dominant customer contact channel in Pakistan. Platforms like Respond.io represent the kind of SaaS layer that Pakistani businesses will increasingly need as they grow, whether they buy the product or, better yet, build a local version of it.

A Quiet Win That Deserves Loud Recognition

Hassan Ahmed did not make headlines in Pakistan when he co-founded the company. He did not appear on prime-time TV when the Series A closed at $7 million in 2022. The $62.5 million Series B is only now filtering into public awareness here, weeks after the global tech press covered it.

That delay is itself a story. Pakistan’s tech community often celebrates local milestones loudly while missing the wins of its diaspora founders operating on the global stage. Hassan Ahmed’s Respond.io journey, from a university in Peshawar to closing one of Southeast Asia’s biggest SaaS rounds, deserves to be part of the national conversation about what Pakistani tech talent can achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Hassan Ahmed from Respond.io?

Hassan Ahmed is a Pakistani entrepreneur from Peshawar and a graduate of the University of Peshawar. He is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Respond.io, a customer conversation management platform based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He co-founded the company in 2017 alongside CEO Gerardo Salandra and COO Iaroslav Kudritskiy.

How much did Respond.io raise in its Series B?

Respond.io raised $62.5 million in a Series B round announced on 16 June 2026. The round was led by Camber Partners, with participation from Endeavor Catalyst and existing investors. The company plans to use the funds to expand into North America and Europe.

Why does this matter for Pakistan’s startup ecosystem?

Pakistani startups based inside the country raised approximately $36.6 million across all of 2025. The Respond.io Series B, with a Pakistani co-founder at the helm of its technology, exceeded that figure on its own. It highlights both the strength of Pakistani engineering talent and the gap in local infrastructure that pushes founders to build abroad.

What does Respond.io’s platform actually do?

Respond.io helps businesses manage all their customer conversations, across WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Telegram, email, voice calls, and more, from a single dashboard with AI tools and automation built in. It serves over 10,000 businesses in more than 180 countries and processes 2 billion messages every quarter.
