The Government of Punjab has announced revised school timings for Ramadan 2026, bringing relief to students and teachers observing the fast. The new schedule applies to all public and private schools across the province and will remain effective throughout the holy month.
These changes aim to reduce study hours while ensuring that academic activities continue smoothly. With Ramadan expected to fall during relatively longer and warmer days, authorities have taken steps to balance education with the physical demands of fasting.
New Timings for Single Shift Schools
According to a notification issued by the School Education Department Punjab on February 16, single-shift schools will follow adjusted hours from Monday to Thursday. Schools will open at 8:30 AM and close at 1:00 PM. On Fridays, classes will end earlier at 12:30 PM.
This shorter schedule is designed to reduce fatigue and help students return home earlier, especially during warm afternoons.
Schedule for Double Shift Schools
For double-shift institutions, separate timings have been announced for morning and evening sessions.
From Monday to Thursday:
Morning Shift: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Evening Shift: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
On Fridays:
Morning Shift: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Evening Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM
These revised hours ensure that both shifts operate efficiently without overlapping, while also keeping the fasting schedule in mind.
Special Instructions for Girls’ Schools
The department has also directed that girls’ schools start and close 15 minutes earlier than the announced timings. This measure is meant to support smoother management and safe commuting during Ramadan.

Why Timings Are Adjusted Every Year
Every year, Punjab adjusts school hours during Ramadan to reduce academic strain. Shorter school days help students focus better while fasting. In past years, similar changes were made, especially during hot weather, to maintain attendance and learning continuity.
The revised schedule also comes as authorities prepare for annual examinations in March. Class 9 and 10 date sheets have already been released, and the new timings are expected to support syllabus completion without putting extra pressure on students.
The School Education Department stated that these Ramadan timings will be observed in all schools across Punjab for the entire holy month. The decision reflects a thoughtful approach to education, ensuring that faith and learning continue side by side.
