The Government of Pakistan has decided to introduce newly designed currency notes. The federal cabinet has officially approved this decision. A special committee has been formed to review and finalize the new designs. This step has been taken to modernize the currency system and improve overall security.
Denominations of New Banknotes
According to official information new designs will be introduced for four denominations only. These denominations are Rs 100 Rs 500 Rs 1000 and Rs 5000. There is no official decision regarding new designs for Rs 10 Rs 20 or Rs 50. The government is mainly focusing on high value notes that are commonly used.
Key Features of the New Notes
The new currency notes will include modern designs and improved security features. These features are intended to reduce the circulation of counterfeit notes. The designs may also highlight Pakistans cultural diversity historical landmarks and important social themes such as womens contribution and environmental awareness.
Printing and Circulation Timeline
The printing of new currency notes has not started yet. The State Bank of Pakistan will begin printing only after the final approval of designs. According to government sources the new notes may be introduced into circulation by the end of 2026. However no exact date has been announced so far.
Status of Existing Currency Notes
All existing currency notes will remain legal tender for now. The government has not announced any immediate plan to withdraw old notes. Usually old and new notes circulate together for some time before the older designs are gradually phased out.
