Pakistan is preparing to launch a new secure messaging platform for government employees, as the National Information Technology Board confirmed that BEEP is ready for official use. The update was shared during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology, where NITB CEO Faisal Iqbal Ratyal briefed lawmakers on the overall progress today.
Strong Certification and Encryption
According to Faisal Iqbal, all relevant government agencies have certified the BEEP application, while National PKCERT has formally declared it secure. He said the app offers stronger features than WhatsApp, including fully encrypted video communications, noting that WhatsApp currently encrypts messaging only, which raises concerns for sensitive official talks nationwide today across ministries and offices.
Phased Launch and Timeline
Officials explained that the BEEP app will be launched in phases, with federal ministries receiving access in the first stage. Faisal Iqbal said the application is expected to go live within two months and will later connect with the federal e Office system to streamline daily workflows, approvals, records, and internal communication tasks smoothly nationwide.
Usage Fee and Sustainability
The NITB CEO added that a small usage fee would be introduced to ensure long term sustainability, though revenue generation is not the main goal. Secretary IT and Telecom stressed that the focus is running the platform efficiently and reliably, while keeping the system self sustaining over time for public service needs nationwide without profit.

During the meeting, the committee chairman praised NITB’s recent performance but raised concerns about the limited visibility of the Punjab Information Technology Board at the federal level, despite NITB’s clear mandate. The Secretary of IT and Telecom acknowledged these concerns and promised better coordination and clarity ahead for digital efforts nationwide, soon again steadily together forward.
Addressing Past Setbacks
He also told lawmakers that reports circulating last year about a possible shutdown of NITB had hurt morale and slowed work. However, he said the organization has now regained momentum, confidence, and direction. Officials assured the committee that performance would improve significantly as digital governance projects expand, budgets stabilize, skills grow, and leadership remains focused.

Officials described the BEEP app as a critical step toward stronger cybersecurity, protecting sensitive government communications, and reducing reliance on foreign messaging platforms.
