Islamabad to Begin Mandatory E-Tag Issuance for All Vehicles from Nov 18

Islamabad is preparing for a major security upgrade as authorities introduce mandatory e-tags for all vehicles entering or operating in the capital. This new rule, starting on November 18, aims to improve monitoring and strengthen safety measures across the city. Officials believe the system will help manage traffic more effectively while enhancing the ability to track vehicle movement during times of heightened security concerns.

Purpose of the New Requirement

The main purpose of the compulsory e-tag system is to support law enforcement by creating a faster and more reliable method of identifying vehicles. With more organized monitoring, authorities can respond better to potential threats and suspicious activity. The decision follows discussions about improving surveillance in response to recent incidents that highlighted weaknesses in the existing vehicle identification process within the capital’s limits.

Confirmation from Deputy Commissioner

The Deputy Commissioner has confirmed that the new rule applies to all vehicles, no matter where they are registered. Whether a vehicle is from Islamabad or another province, an e-tag will be required for entry and travel within city boundaries. To ensure smooth implementation, officials will inform citizens ahead of time about designated centers where they can obtain e-tags without facing unnecessary delays or confusion.

Statement from Interior Minister

Earlier, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry emphasized the seriousness of the initiative by stating that no vehicle will be allowed on Islamabad’s roads without an e-tag. According to him, the new system will greatly help authorities monitor movement across different areas. His statement reflects the government’s focus on modernizing security methods while introducing tools that support better tracking in daily operations.

Link to Recent Security Concerns

The decision to enforce mandatory e-tags is closely linked to recent security challenges in the city. The tragic suicide blast outside the G-11 district and sessions court claimed several lives and left many injured, prompting officials to reassess current safety strategies. By improving vehicle identification, the government hopes to reduce the likelihood of such attacks and create a safer environment for residents and visitors.

Benefits for Law Enforcement

Authorities believe that compulsory e-tags will make it easier to identify suspicious vehicles, especially during emergencies or investigations. The system will also help reduce manual checks at various points, saving time for both drivers and police. With automated data collection, law enforcement agencies can monitor entry and exit routes more effectively, improving response times during critical situations across the capital.

Technology Upgrades at Entry Points

To support the new requirement, the government is coordinating technology upgrades at all major entry points into Islamabad. These improvements will allow smoother scanning and verification when the system becomes fully operational. Officials are working to ensure that equipment is tested and ready before the rollout begins on November 18, reducing the likelihood of delays or technical problems during the early stages.

Preparing Citizens for Implementation

As the start date approaches, authorities are urging citizens to stay informed and obtain their e-tags on time. Public awareness campaigns will help guide drivers through the process while explaining the purpose behind the new rule. By cooperating with the initiative, residents can contribute to a safer city and help ensure that the transition to the updated system takes place without major disruptions.
