Don’t be concerned. I’ve tested every version of the Apple Watch available right now, as well as virtually every other fitness watch and smartwatch on the market, and can point you in the right direction.
Should you purchase an Apple Watch?
For iPhone users, the Apple Watch is the best overall smartwatch. Even with the Ultra in the mix, many smartwatches outperform the Apple Watch for hardcore athletes.
Other watches, on the other hand, fall short in terms of productivity, security features, controlling your smart home, and interacting with other Apple devices and services.
And, of all smartwatches on the market, the Apple Watch has the most robust third-party app ecosystem.
Wearables are inherently personal devices, and you won’t reap the benefits of an Apple Watch if you don’t wear it on a regular basis.
The last thing you want to do is spend hundreds of dollars on something that will sit in a drawer collecting dust.
Avoiding this is as simple as stacking the deck in your favor and prioritizing comfort.
Before you start thinking about which Apple Watch model to get, take a moment to determine which size and strap material will best fit your wrist.

Who is it for? : We wouldn’t recommend an Apple Watch Ultra to a couch potato unless you want the longest possible battery life. The goal is to point you in the direction of the best Apple Watch for your needs.
Should you buy new or used? You can often save money on an Apple Watch by purchasing it refurbished, especially since there aren’t many changes from year to year.
Feature set: Do you want to pay more for LTE? What models have which sensors, and how does this affect you?
LTE or GPS: Some scenarios necessitate the purchase of cellular models, while others require only GPS.
The SE and Series watches are available in two sizes. The SE is available in 40mm and 44mm widths, while the Series 8 is available in 41mm and 45mm widths.
The larger models are easier to read, while the smaller ones are more comfortable for those with small wrists. The SE and Series 8 both have aluminum cases, but the Series 8 also has a stainless steel option.
Most people will be fine with aluminum, but if you’re clumsy or very active, stainless steel will benefit you. You might also prefer the look of stainless steel, which is understandable given that watches are a personal piece of technology. Just be prepared to pay a few hundred dollars more.
When it comes to straps, we recommend the nylon sport loop because it is the most breathable, has the easiest clasp, and is less irritating than silicone options, making it ideal for sensitive skin. If you want more fashionable options, we recommend Amazon or Etsy for a wider range of styles and lower prices.
The Ultra is only available in one size, 49mm, and with a titanium case. It adds three new straps: the trail loop, the alpine loop, and the ocean loop.
They’re geared toward runners, hikers, and divers, as their names suggest, but you can choose whichever one appeals to you.
The trail loop is the lightest and most versatile of the three options. All of the new straps are compatible with any 44mm or 45mm Apple Watch strap, not just the Ultra, and the Ultra is compatible with any 44mm or 45mm Apple Watch strap.
