The long-awaited Margalla Avenue in the nation’s capital was officially opened by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Six lanes of the dual carriageway (three on each side) between the E-12 Toll Plaza and the Grand Trunk Road are now accessible to traffic following the ceremony.
Margalla Avenue runs from Sangjani to Bhara Kahu
There were some shifts in the project’s original scope. The road was originally four lanes wide but was expanded to six lanes as time went on. The updated proposal also includes the installation of highway-grade road signs and power infrastructure.
Additional time was needed to incorporate underpasses like the one at Shah Allah Ditta. According to the official who briefed the PM, the journey time from Sangjani to Islamabad will be cut down to a mere seven minutes.
Since Margalla Avenue diverts traffic away from neighboring expressways like Srinagar Highway, it helps ease congestion there. The project manager gave the order to finish the rest of Margalla Avenue on schedule.
