On Wednesday, a big Baleen Whale was discovered dead off the Coast of Manora Island in Karachi, attracting a large throng who flocked to see the marine giant.
The fishermen were fishing in the sea near Manora Island like they did every day when they discovered a 28-foot-long and 8-foot-wide dead whale washed ashore, according to reports.
The fishermen, on the other hand, did not notify the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) or the Sindh Livestock and Fisheries Department about the occurrence. They took the dead whale from Manora Island’s coast to Karachi Fish Harbor without the involvement of the authorities.
Fishermen accidently grabbed a 200-kg shark while fishing in the sea near Kund Malir beach near Karachi earlier this month.
According to one of the fisherman, this is the largest shark species found in the open water along Pakistan’s coast, and it has been spotted on several occasions.
About Baleen Whales
Baleen whales (systematic name Mysticeti), commonly known as whalebone whales, are carnivorous marine mammals of the infraorder Cetacea (whales, dolphins, and porpoises) that sift planktonic organisms from the water using keratinaceous baleen plates (or “whalebone”) in their jaws.
Baleen whales range in size from the pygmy right whale, which is 6 m (20 ft) long and weighs 3,000 kg (6,600 lb), to the blue whale, which is 31 m (102 ft) long and weighs 190 t (210 short tonnes).
