The Zong 5G desk is officially open at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, giving domestic and international travellers instant access to SIM activation, high-speed mobile data, and live customer support the moment they land at one of Pakistan’s busiest aviation hubs. The facility is the result of a formal partnership between Zong and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), announced on 11 June 2026.
What the Zong 5G Desk Offers Travellers
The dedicated counter inside Jinnah International Airport is designed to eliminate the friction travellers typically face when trying to get connected after arrival. Services available at the desk include new SIM activation, mobile data plan subscriptions, and real-time troubleshooting by Zong representatives — all powered by the carrier’s next-generation 5G network.
The Zong 5G desk at Karachi is the third such installation in the country. Zong had previously rolled out a similar airport facilitation model at Islamabad’s New Islamabad International Airport and at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, making Karachi the latest — and arguably most high-traffic — addition to the programme.
Expansion Plans: Peshawar and Multan Next
Zong has confirmed that the airport facilitation drive will not stop at Karachi. The company intends to deploy kiosks at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar and Multan International Airport as part of the next phase of its national airport connectivity rollout. This signals a systematic push to make seamless 5G access a standard feature across Pakistan’s major air travel gateways.
PAA and Zong: A Shared Digital Vision
The partnership reflects a broader alignment between Pakistan’s telecom sector and its civil aviation authority on modernising passenger services. By embedding telecom infrastructure directly inside the terminal, both organisations aim to raise the quality of the overall travel experience while supporting the government’s Digital Pakistan agenda.
Anas Matloob, Deputy Regional General Manager – South at Zong, commented on the significance of the Karachi location: “Karachi serves as a key gateway for both domestic and international travellers, making seamless connectivity an essential part of the travel experience. Through this initiative, we are enabling passengers to access reliable telecom services immediately upon arrival, reinforcing our commitment to customer convenience, innovation, and service excellence.”
The Joint Director Commercial of PAA Karachi added: “At Jinnah International Airport, our focus remains on enhancing passenger facilitation through modern and efficient services. This collaboration with Zong enables us to provide improved digital support to travellers, contributing to a more seamless, connected, and comfortable airport experience.”
AI and Next-Gen Connectivity in Zong’s Roadmap
Beyond the physical desk, Zong says the airport initiative sits within a wider technology roadmap that includes AI-enabled solutions targeting smarter and more efficient travel experiences. The company describes itself as Pakistan’s leading technology service enterprise and has been steadily diversifying beyond core connectivity into digital products and enterprise services.
The Zong 5G desk model is notable because it positions 5G not just as a network upgrade but as a tangible, consumer-facing service touchpoint — something travellers interact with on arrival rather than simply benefiting from in the background.
Why This Matters for Pakistan’s Telecom Sector
Pakistan’s 5G rollout has been closely watched since spectrum auctions and regulatory frameworks began taking shape. Embedding a Zong 5G desk at major international airports sends a clear signal to inbound travellers — including foreign investors and diaspora visitors — that high-speed connectivity is available from the moment of arrival. It also provides Zong with a prime acquisition channel for new subscribers at a high-intent moment.
With Karachi now added to the network, Zong’s airport facilitation programme covers the country’s three largest cities. The planned expansions to Peshawar and Multan would extend that reach into key regional markets, rounding out a nationwide airport presence that no other Pakistani carrier currently matches.
The launch underlines how Zong 5G infrastructure is moving from towers and spec sheets into everyday consumer touchpoints — a shift that could accelerate 5G adoption across both urban and travelling populations in Pakistan.
