According to a recent report, Apple is planning to launch a new feature that will allow businesses to utilize iPhones as POS (point of sale) terminals without the need for additional gear.
The feature is scheduled to be released in the coming months as a software update, and it will most likely make use of NFC technology to allow users to pay directly over NFC by placing their contactless credit or debit cards, iPhone, or Apple Watch on another iPhone.
The functionality will be released with the goal of assisting micro-merchants such as street vendors, street artists, food trucks, and others by allowing them to accept card payments without the need for extra equipment such as a payment terminal machine.
For the time being, it’s unknown whether this new feature will be included in Apple Pay or whether the company would partner with existing payment companies to make the service available to all iPhone users.
When it launches, the new feature will enable a variety of payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, bank cards, and NFC wearables.
In the next months, iPhone users should anticipate this update to come on their handsets. The Apple is also expected to release the iOS 15.4 beta soon, which could include this functionality for testing.
