On Thursday, representatives of the Sindh government met with the World Bank to discuss a potential Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line bus service proposal. Finding a method to decrease project development costs and delivery times was the meeting’s main objective.
Sharjeel Memon, the minister of information and transportation for Sindh, met with Lincoln Flor, a senior transport specialist for the World Bank, to go through the initial idea. The parties committed to researching the PC-I, PC-II, and alternative concepts for the Yellow Line BRT in great detail.
Both sides agreed to hold more meetings and wrap up the situation in a week, according to a statement about the meeting. Two alternative recommendations have been discussed with World Bank by the necessary officials in order to better optimize the project and make it more financially viable.
Memon emphasized the government’s efforts by saying:
‘”The Sindh government is making significant efforts to improve the city’s public transportation system. The People’s Bus Service has been started recently on the city’s key thoroughfares. Its fleet of 250 hybrid diesel buses is a successful model.”
The government wants to minimize yearly subsidy expenditures while also lowering the cost of infrastructure and expanding the fleet, according to the World Bank.
The planned Yellow Line BRT proposal states that the following will be on the dedicated route:
- Dawood Chowrangi in the Korangi Industrial Area
- Jam Sadiq Bridge
- Main Korangi Road
- FTC Interchange Shahrah-e-Faisal
- Shahrah-e-Quaideen
- Kashmir Road Interchange
- Numaish Chowrangi
The service will join the BRT Red Line at the last stop. The senior official of the World Bank told the gathering that Karachi is their top priority, according to the official release.
“World Bank’s senior official informed the meeting that Karachi is their priority. The bank is committed to providing all possible support to Sindh government in developing Karachi’s public transport infrastructure.”
