By excavating a “river” that is four meters deep, 11 meters broad, and 12,000 kilometers long with the goal of outpacing the Nile river, Saudi Arabia intends to start the largest drinkable water project in the history of the planet.
The project would use anti-corrosion pipes, each with a diameter of 2.25 meters, according to the popular Saudi journalist Ahmad Al Shugairi’s TV show Seen.
“The amount of effort spent to create underground rivers provides us with water in our homes, even though we are in an area that is mostly desert. It is a blessing I was born with, and from getting used to it I forgot it and took it for granted. Thank you to everyone who had a hand that we wake up and find water at home,” Al Shugairi said.
World’s Longest River Project
He continued, saying that the river project would be twice as large as the Nile, which is more than 6,000 kilometers long: “In a few years, the length of the water pipes would transfer this fresh water from one region to another.”

“We are talking about the longest, twice the longest river in the world.” They are all underground pipes that bring us fresh, good water,” Al Shugairi said.
Al Shugairi said that this will be one of the largest desalinated water delivery networks in the world. “The length of the pipes under the Saudi cities is 126,000 kilometers, and if it revolved around the world it would circle the world three times, and the amount of water would be 9.4 million cubic meters produced per day.”
Al Shugairi claimed that if this quantity were divided to everyone on the planet, each person would receive two gallons (two bottles) of water from the manufacturing of water that has been sweetened in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia produces more than one billion and six million cubic meters of desalinated water annually, or 18% of the world’s total production, making it the biggest producer in the world.
With an annual production of 1006.6 million cubic meters, the government-run Saline Water Conversion Corporation is the world’s largest producer of desalinated water.
The coastal stations produce (511.3) million cubic metres, or 50.8 percent of the total output, whereas the eastern shore stations produce (495.3) million cubic metres, or 49.2 percent of the total output.
The 27 desalination plants that are currently in operation in the nation produce (24,884,807) MWh of electrical energy.
