WhatsApp is attempting to catch up with the competition and has recently introduced a slew of new features. With an upgrade to group calls, it is now taking a bite out of Google Meet and Zoom’s pie.
Similar to Google Meet and Zoom, Meta’s popular chat messenger will soon allow you to schedule calls for group chats. This function was discovered in the most recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.23.17.7).
Group chats in WhatsApp will soon allow you to plan future calls and notify all members of a group, as shown in the screenshot below.
This functionality was discovered months ago in a previous beta version of WhatsApp, but it is now being rolled out to beta testers, indicating that it is nearing completion.
According to the screenshot, the call button in a group allows you to schedule calls for later. This allows you to specify a time and date for a conference call as well as its purpose.
You can also choose whether to have a video or audio call. Those in the group who tap “Join call” will be notified 15 minutes before the call begins.
This should make it much easier to plan calls, and the automatic notification feature means you won’t have to remind anyone about it.
As previously stated, this feature is still in beta and will be made available to more users in the coming weeks. There is no word on when WhatsApp plans to make it available to everyone.
