The Information Technology University of Lahore has started the first virtual reality classes in Pakistan.
Information Technology University, Pakistan’s first institution to offer metaverse classes, is bridging the gap between virtual and traditional education.
Thanks to this innovative approach, students enrolled in online courses can now experience engagement levels comparable to those found in physical classrooms.
In this novel setup, students and teachers can attend classes from anywhere in the country by simply wearing a virtual reality headset.
The setup includes essential teaching tools such as a projector and board, allowing instructors to effectively deliver their lessons in the virtual environment.
Students in the metaverse can not only ask and receive answers, but also feel their movements. Students have expressed that the virtual classroom closely resembles reality, making it easier for them to understand the syllabus.
Ibrahim Ghaznavi, Head of the Department of Computer Sciences, stated that this initiative will not only save energy but also improve students’ academic performance.
He recalled how students found it difficult to understand online classes during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ghaznavi went on to say that improving the facility was critical for students’ understanding.
As part of the pilot project, the university signed an agreement with the University of Denmark.
The IT industry believes that if legislators enact laws that promote modern technology and use it to improve education, Pakistan’s importance in this field will be recognised around the world.
