The Foreign Office addressed the heckling of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar at the Washington airport on Friday, saying that US officials were aware of the incident.
The statement came a day after a man hurled insults at Dar at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC, where the minister had arrived to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
According to FO Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, US officials are aware of the misbehavior with the finance minister at the airport.
He also recalled how Saudi officials raised the issue when the government delegation was targeted by certain individuals during their visit.
On Thursday, a video of a man mistreating and abusing the finance minister went viral. However, Dar’s companion, Imran Mani Butt, responded, and the man appeared to stop.
Imran accused the PTI of sending workers to the airport to abuse Dar in a Twitter video. “We will not tolerate this at any cost. How you [PTI] disrespect others and film videos just to make them viral, it is over and not anymore acceptable,” he said in the video message.
“You need to stop yourself and stop using abusive language for any guest coming from Pakistan or representing Pakistan,” added Butt.
