Schools in the UAE are gearing up for an exciting mid-term break this February. The holiday schedule across institutions will differ, giving students varying amounts of time off. This break offers a much-needed opportunity for students and families to unwind before the next term. As the month progresses, schools will be ready for the break, catering to different needs of the academic calendar.
Holiday Schedule Across Schools
The main holiday period will begin in the middle of February, starting on Monday, February 10. For many students, the holiday will last a full week, ending on Friday, February 14. This will create a 9-day holiday when weekends are included. However, not all schools are offering a full week off, as some will have a shorter mid-term break of just a few days.
Shorter Breaks at Some Schools
Certain schools will opt for a shorter holiday break. From Wednesday, February 12 to Friday, February 14, students will enjoy a brief three-day break. This will be a four-day break when the weekend is included, giving students time to rest and recharge. These schools will resume classes on Sunday, February 16, after a much-needed break from their studies.

Two-Day Holiday for Some Institutions
In a few schools, the break will be even shorter, lasting just two days on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14. This will result in a four-day holiday when combined with the weekend. Students at these institutions will return to their classrooms on Monday, February 17, ensuring minimal disruption to their studies. Despite the short break, it still provides a valuable opportunity for relaxation.
Adjustments for Ramadan
Looking ahead, UAE schools are preparing for the start of Ramadan, expected to begin on March 1, depending on the moon sighting. As the holy month approaches, schools will make adjustments to their schedules. This may include shorter school hours to accommodate the changes in daily routines during Ramadan. Educators will ensure that the curriculum is adjusted to maintain an effective learning environment.
Balanced Academic Calendar
Despite these changes, schools are required to meet certain academic standards. For example, schools offering international curricula must ensure a minimum of 182 school days throughout the year. While adhering to this requirement, schools can still implement short breaks, ensuring that students receive the rest they need to stay focused and motivated throughout the school year.
Half-Term Break Options
Some schools are also extending their mid-term break, which will run from Friday, February 14 to Monday, February 17. This extended holiday provides additional time for students and families to enjoy their break, creating a balance between rest and academic responsibility. This flexibility in the academic calendar ensures that students have adequate time to recharge before returning to their studies.
The Value of Breaks for Students
Lisa Johnson, the principal of the American Academy for Girls, emphasized the importance of breaks for students and families. She stated, “We recognise the value of short breaks for students and families to recharge. Research shows that periodic breaks improve focus, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being, which is essential for maintaining a balanced and effective learning environment.”
