Auto-captioning of videos has been enabled to Twitter’s app.
The caption will instantly open in the video featured on all of these devices, whether it is an iOS or Android phone or a desktop computer. It is now possible to turn it on or off.
On the other side, it is currently available in 37 main languages around the world, but no translation service is available.
Twitter claims that translation and editing tools are not available at this moment since the company is testing the option 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It’s worth noting that Twitter announced this in the second week of December and that it’s now live.
Twitter debuted an audio tweet option without a caption last year, which was widely panned. People were pressing for captions at the time, and now they’ve stated that captions would be included in the video as well.
Twitter apologised and “fixed many flaws,” including making voice tweets identifiable on the timeline, after initial criticism that the feature didn’t take into account the needs of the visually handicapped, deaf, or hard of hearing.
It’s odd, therefore, that the corporation didn’t learn from its failures and produce auto-captions with more features, such as the ability to amend or report inaccurate subtitles.
A request for comment from Twitter was not immediately returned.
