On Tuesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning that a tropical cyclone may be developing over the Southeast Arabian Sea.
The weather agency stated in an advisory posted on its website that “the low-pressure area (LPA) over Southeast Arabian Sea has intensified into a Depression (strong LPA) and lies near Latitude 11.5 N & Longitude 66.0 E about 1500km south of Karachi.”
The system is projected to intensify further into a tropical storm over the course of the next 18 to 24 hours due to “favourable” environmental circumstances, the report continued, including sea surface temperatures of 30-31°C, low vertical wind shear, and upper-level divergence.

The update also predicted that the storm would continue to move further north and northwest.
The message went on to say that none of Pakistan’s coastal regions are currently in danger.
However, the PMD’s Karachi cyclone warning centre is keeping an eye on the system and will provide an update as needed.
Additionally, the letter advised all relevant agencies to be “alert” throughout the projected period.
