Toyota has added a new variant to its already diverse Hilux pickup truck lineup in Australia. The new Hilux GR Sport model is more muscular and slightly more powerful.
A slew of spy shots suggest that the Hilux GR Sport will be available in Thailand soon. Toyota, on the other hand, intends to launch it in Australia in H2, 2023.
It has wider wheel arches, a higher stance, off-road tyres, new wheels, a new front bumper and grille design, and a few decorative exterior trim pieces. According to reports, the Hilux GR Sport is a direct competitor to the Ford Ranger Raptor.
Hilux
The Hilux GR Sport is powered by a similar turbocharged 2.8 litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 220 horsepower (nearly 20 more than the standard variant) and 500 Newton-meters of torque.
For off-road driving, the engine has a 6-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive mode and lockable differentials.
Upgrades include a rear stabilizer bar, 18-inch alloy wheels, and rear ventilated disc brakes.
With minor suspension improvements, its ride height is 20 millimeters higher than all other variants except Rogue, allowing for greater ground clearance.
In addition, the GR Sport has 140mm wider front wheels and 155mm wider rear wheels than the other variants. In this case, the larger footprint provides better surface grip.
Other enhancements:
- Roller cover with motor
- Front seats that are heated
- Leather upholstery with perforations
- 360-degree camera
- Tow ball and trailer wiring harness
- Premium audio system with nine speakers
- Parking sensors
The Hilux GR Sport’s price has yet to be announced. However, Australian automotive journalists estimate the price to be around Rs. 11.65 million. Regardless, due to its popularity and high demand, it will almost certainly become a smash hit in any market.
