This year’s monsoon rains in Karachi are predicted to be stronger than typical and last up to three months, according to the Meteorological Department.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Office’s 2022 Monsoon Outlook, Pakistan’s monsoon rainfall would be above average this year.
During the monsoon season this year, Karachi is expected to get 140 mm of rain (July-September).
According to the Meteorological Department, sea temperatures in the Atlantic and Arabian Seas are lower than usual. La Nia (the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures) is active because of the low sea temperature. According to the weather agency, this system is enhancing monsoon activity.
According to the projection, the monsoon would arrive in two parts. It starts on July 1st and runs through September 31st, with a three-month first phase and a three-month second phase.
The monsoon rains in Karachi are likely to start in mid-July, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The city’s temperature was measured at 31 degrees Celsius, with winds gusting to 20 kilometers per hour, according to the Met Office.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has written to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, encouraging all stakeholders to work together ahead of the next monsoon season to avoid a repetition of last year’s sad happenings in the city amid heavy rains.
The governor explained how last year’s severe rains in Karachi resulted in fatal situations in a letter dated June 16 and urged that the CM, as the province’s executive leader, should mobilize all essential institutions.
