The newest flagship phones from Xiaomi have just gone on sale in China. We’re referring to the much awaited Xiaomi 13 series, which includes the 13 and 13 Pro models for the time being.
The two phones introduce official ingress protection (IP) rating, which was previously only available on select more cheap phones like Xiaomi’s Ultra flagships.
Display and Design
The curved screen from last year has been replaced by a completely flat panel by Xiaomi. According to Xiaomi, this 6.36-inch 120Hz OLED panel has the smallest bezels ever, giving it a screen-to-body ratio of 93%. This 1080p screen supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and has a maximum brightness of 1900 nits.
Sadly, despite being a flagship, the screen does not receive LTPO treatment, therefore battery-saving lower refresh rates are not available.
The larger 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 2K resolution allows the Pro sibling to maintain its curves. It has Gorilla Glass Victus protection and is capable of reaching the same maximum brightness levels of 1900 nits.
Hardware and software
The most recent and finest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC from Qualcomm is the same cutting-edge chipset that powers both phones. At least based on early benchmark scores, it is said to be much superior to its predecessor. This is coupled with 512 GB of UFS 4.0-based storage and up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. There is no slot for a memory card.
The phones’ software comes pre-installed with Android 13 and Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 14. Numerous new features and performance enhancements are included in the new OS, which we will examine in a different article.
Cameras
The camera configurations on the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are very different. The Pro model chooses the enormous 1-inch type Sony IMX989 that adorned Xiaomi’s 12S Ultra, while the standard model has a 50MP (1.49′′) image sensor below the main camera.
This is likewise a 50MP camera, but it also includes a second pair of 50MP cameras for telephoto and ultrawide pictures (3.5x optical zoom).
The Xiaomi 13’s only cameras are a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto lens. The 32MP wide-angle selfie camera on both phones can shoot up to 8K footage with OIS.
Pricing and Battery
In contrast to the Pro’s larger 4,820 mAh battery and 120W wired charging, the Xiaomi 13 offers a smaller 4,500 mAh cell with 67W wired charging.
Both have 50W wireless charging, which is quicker than the cable charging on the majority of other flagship smartphones. For your other devices and accessories, 10W reverse wireless charging is supported.
The starting prices for the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are $575 and $750, respectively. The price tags will probably be a little bit more globally.
