The new Beijing X55 SUV, which will serve as the cornerstone for the Chinese carmaker moving forward, was launched by BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation) in South Africa, a country with a right-hand drive similar to ours.
The new X55 SUV is another illustration of how Chinese automakers are gradually making their presence known in right-hand drive countries. The new Beijing X55 features an entirely unique design. According to BAIC, the small SUV features a cutting-edge style and is built on the most recent version of the Beijing Modular Functional Architecture (BMFA) platform used by the Group. Future car models and plug-in hybrid vehicle types from BAIC will be supported by this platform.
The Beijing X55 SUV is equipped with a DCT transmission and a 1.5L turbocharged engine with 175 horsepower and 305 Nm of torque. According to BAIC, the SUV can accelerate to 100 km/h from a complete stop in 7.8 seconds. The X55 SUV has a variety of driving settings, including eco, comfort, sports, and smart, and boasts fuel efficiency ratings of 13.88 kilometres per litre.
Hugo HU, BAIC South Africa’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, claims that the business has invested in creating intelligent vehicles under a new brand. The Chinese manufacturer proudly announced that future models would feature technologies from the illustrious German brand thanks to a strategic cooperation with Daimler.
