The national champions of Pakistan’s sixth Huawei Middle East ICT Competition have now been selected, with the successful teams advancing for the regional finals later this month.
The 2021 edition of the Competition, which was held in collaboration with HEC, Huawei Authorized Learning Partners, Huawei Academy Support Centers, and Huawei ICT Academies, attracted over 10,000 students from 137 universities, with 50 qualifying for national finals and the most talented 6 qualifying for regional finals.
Nurturing and empowering a new generation of Pakistani ICT talent to contribute effectively to the country’s national digitalization objectives and visions.
The winners of this year’s national competition in Pakistan are Mehran University of Engineering and Technology’s Bhagchan Meghwar, Mukhtar Memon, and Sateesh Kumar. Government College University Faisalabad’s Hafiz Muhammad Rizwan, Islamia University Bahawalpur’s Syeda Iqra Fatima, and Virtual University Islamabad’s Adnan Ali.
They were given free vouchers worth USD200, participation certificates, goodies, souvenirs, and training for regional finals, with the chance to win USD 20,000 in prize money at the upcoming Middle East regional final, as well as other certificates and accolades, and the chance to compete in the global finals.
Congratulating the winners, Meng Mark, CEO, Huawei, Pakistan, said: “The level of competition was exceptionally high this year, evidence of the incredible ICT talent available in Pakistan. Not only are the youth becoming more acquainted with the latest technologies, but they are applying these into practical solutions that can deliver true value to society.
As Pakistan undergoes a rapid digital transformation, we will continue to support the youth with the necessary skills to propel industry and the economy forward.”
Furthermore, Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, said: “The key to achieving digital transformation is collaboration between industry, government, academia, and technology companies.
We are proud to be part of this ambitious initiative which has consistently raised the bar in ICT competition in the country while exposing our students to global standards of innovation and best practices.”
This year’s ICT Competition, themed ‘Connectivity, Honor, Future,’ drew thousands of college and university students from Pakistan and the wider Middle East.
It aspires, among other things, to develop ICT talent among college students around the world and equip them with the skills they need to flourish in an expanding digital economy.
In Pakistan, the extremely successful Huawei Innovation Competition, which drew 137 academic institutions and universities, as well as 10,530 competitors, returned this year. Following a tremendously successful debut in 2020, it is held concurrently with the ICT Competition.
The Huawei Innovation Competition encourages undergraduate students and professors to leverage cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data to develop useful and impactful applications for society.
