The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has dismissed reports that biometric data from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) was stolen.
The FIA claimed in a Twitter post that no such comment concerning data hacking had been made, and that the statement made at a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication had been misconstrued. The FIA further stated that the hacking storey is “not founded on facts.”
Earlier in the day, a representative from the FIA Cybercrime Wing told the NA body that the NADRA biometric database had been compromised, but that the scope of the attack had yet to be determined.
He also claimed that data taken from NADRA’s biometric database was the main cause of the country’s escalating cybercrime rate.
