According to a document made accessible, the telecom sector’s revenue increased by 18.71 percent to Rs. 824 billion in the fiscal year 2022–23 from Rs. 694 billion in the previous year.
The PTA paper states that over the previous two years, the telco sector attracted $276 million.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached 186 million dollars in the fiscal year 2021–2022 but fell to 108 million dollars in the fiscal year 2022–2023.
PTA gave the national treasury Rs. 703.3 billion between 2021 and 2023. PTA provided Rs. 189.9 billion over the last two years to the Federal Consolidated Fund (FCF) out of a total of Rs. 703.3 billion.
PTA donated Rs. 21.4 billion to the Universal Service Fund and Ignite National Fund between 2022 and 2023.
Telecom Industry Contribution in Nations Economy
In the previous two years, the telco authority contributed Rs. 458 billion in telecom taxes and Rs. 34 billion in taxes collected through PTA mobile registration (DIRBS).
The document states that from June 2017 to June 2023, tele density grew from 66.30% to 81.03%. In the last five years, the penetration of broadband rose from 22.6 to 53.7 percent.
From 681 Petabytes in 2017 to 10,850 Petabytes in June 2023, total data usage grew.
