Multan Sultans defeated Quetta Gladiators by 6 runs to become the first team in PSL 2022 to successfully defend their total. Sultans won their third game in a row in the tournament, extending their lead at the top of the PSL points table. Quetta maintained third place in the points table despite losing their second match of the season.
Multan batters stayed put on a sluggish pitch at National Stadium Karachi, with opener Shan Masood batting brilliantly. Tim David and Khushdil Shah‘s late fireworks helped them to a respectable total of 174/4.
Quetta cruised through the run chase until Imran Tahir and Khushdil Shah fought back in the middle of the innings. Quetta’s chase fell apart as wickets fell at regular intervals. In the 17th over, Iftikhar Ahmed hammered Imran Khan Sr. for 24 runs, completing an incredible comeback for Quetta. Despite his best attempts, Multan managed to hold on and win their third match in a row in the tournament.
