Spotify has been available in Pakistan for over a year. Since then, the music streaming service has added over 19,000 Pakistani songs to the app, which has received millions of listens.
The basic membership plan is also reasonably priced, beginning at Rs 300 per month.
There’s also a three-month free trial of Spotify Premium, but it turns out that it’s not free at all.
We at ProPakistani signed up for the free trial, which was meant to be free but ended up costing us Rs 100.
Although Rs 100 is not a large sum, it makes little sense given that Spotify advertises the three-month trial as “free” and your receipt shows Rs 0. The website also makes no mention of any additional fees.
Despite the receipt showing “Rs 0.00,” Spotify charged Rs 100 to our HBL bank account.
The deduction was also shown on HBL’s bank account statement, indicating that it was incurred by Spotify.
For most of us, Rs 100 is pennies on the dollar, but labelling the trial “free” is blatantly deceptive and might be considered fraudulent advertising on Spotify’s part.
