Spotify already has an AI-powered DJ feature that recommends personalized playlists to users and backs them up with a synthetic voice.
Spotify users can now create playlists quickly using AI with only a few prompts.
For Now, this feature is only available on Android and iOS and will be limited to users in the UK and AUS.
Create genre-based playlist
Prompts can range from “songs to serenade my cat” to “beats to battle a zombie apocalypse,” with themes including locations, animals, activities, movie characters, colours, and emojis.
Spotify emphasises that the most effective playlists are created using prompts that combine genres, moods, artists, and decades.
AI-driven Commands
This approach ensures that the musical experience is rich and varied, tailored to the individual’s tastes and preferences. Spotify tailors the playlists generated by this feature to meet the preferences of individual users.
Users can fine-tune the playlist to their liking using AI-driven commands like “less upbeat” or “more pop” after it has been generated. Users can also remove songs from their playlist by swiping left on them.
Spotify’s Large Language Models
Under the hood, Spotify uses large language models (LLMs) to determine user intent.
Spotify responds to the prompt by using its personalisation tech, which includes user history and preferences, to create a bespoke AI-generated playlist.
In its AI and machine learning efforts, the company uses a variety of third-party tools to improve user experiences.
How This Feature Works?
The feature is available in Spotify’s app under the “Your Library” tab, and users can access it by tapping the (+) button in the top right corner of the screen.
A pop-up menu appears, displaying the AI Playlist alongside the existing “Playlist” and “Blend” options.
Spotify provides prompt suggestions to help you get started exploring. For instance, you might be asked to “get focused at work with instrumental electronica,” “fill in the silence with background café music,” “get pumped up with fun, upbeat, and positive songs,” and “explore a niche genre like Witch House,” just to name a few.
To save an AI-generated playlist, simply tap the “Create” button to add it to their library.
