The Tata Group, one of the most significant economic conglomerates in India, plans to start making mobile chips.
In a few years, Tata Group will start making semiconductors in India, according to a report in Nikkei Asia.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, acknowledged it to the journal in an interview.
The company is anticipated to cooperate with semiconductor producers, and US foundries and Japanese, Taiwanese, and South Korean foundries are potential project partners.
The announcement follows rumors that Apple is beginning to assemble iPhones in India just a few days ago.
According to reports, the company is in negotiations to pay up to 50 billion rupees ($612.6 million) for Wistron Crop’s sole production facility in India.
In a few years, the corporation said, Tata Group will consider producing its own mobile chips inexpensive in India.
Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran reportedly stated in a recent report by Nikkei Asia that the company was in talks with “multiple players” seeking partnerships with current chip producers.
Chandrasekaran noted in the interview that Tata Electronics, “under which we are going to set up a semiconductor assembly testing business,” has been established by the corporation.
The report, which is based on mobile chips design and development, pointed out that Tata has already established cooperation with Tokyo-based Renesas Electronics in June of this year.
He continued by saying that the organization is aiming to start up new firms in developing industries, such as electric vehicles (EVs).
Chandrasekaran predicted that “EV sales would surpass IC engine sales by 2027,” which is earlier than Tata’s stated goal of 2030.
The consortium, which includes Vistara and AirAsia India, also wants to reunite the management of Air India, the nation’s flag carrier, which it recently purchased back from the government.
He merely said that the matter would be “up for discussion going forward,” without specifying whether this entailed integrating their brands.
