Sony has unveiled the design of its next-generation virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR2, as well as the PlayStation VR2 Scene controller that will go with it. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s SVP of platform experience, Hideaki Nishino, stated that the design of the PS VR2 headset was inspired by the look of the PS5 family of products.
The ergonomics of the headset were carefully considered, as Sony wants users to feel as immersed in their game world as possible while also ensuring a comfortable fit for a wide range of head sizes.
A lens adjustment dial to manually adjust the distance between a user’s eyes and the lens, a built-in motor for headset feedback, and a ventilation system to prevent the lens from fogging up during intense gaming sessions are among the new features of the next-generation headset.
Despite the new features, Sony was able to create a headset that is slimmer and lighter than the original.
Sony added tiny PlayStation symbols to the bands of the PS VR2 – a neat little Easter egg, if you will – just like it did on the PS5 and DualSense controller.
Nishino only briefly mentioned the PS VR5’s technical aspects, mentioning its ability to support 4K HDR visuals and its use of inside-out camera tracking.
As previously stated, the headset will connect to consoles using a single cord for convenience.
The PlayStation VR2 has yet to be released, and we don’t know how much it will cost. Having said that, it is already in the hands of developers, so we should be getting more information in the not-too-distant future.
