According to recent sources, interim administration of Sindh has declared a holiday for all public and private schools, as well as colleges, on September 7 to commemorate Hazrat Imam Hussain’s (RA) Chehlum.
This significant day, which falls 40 days after Ashura, commemorates Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions’ sacrifices during the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH.
Sindh Govt. announces Holiday on Chehlum
Following a decision by its steering committee, the Sindh Education Department confirmed the closure of all private and government schools and institutions on this day.
Mourning processions are expected in several cities and towns across the country as locals pay their respects to the Karbala martyrs.
Holiday on Data Ganj Buksh Urs
In related news, Mohsin Naqvi, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, has formally announced a holiday in Lahore on September 7 (Thursday) to commemorate the annual Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh Syed Ali Hajveri.
The Chief Minister announced the three-day Urs ritual, which will begin today (Tuesday), during his visit to Data Darbar.
To feed a huge number of attendees, a community kitchen, also known as a langar khana, is being built up. “It is our responsibility to ensure that everyone who attends the event has access to food,” Naqvi stated.
