Shell Pakistan promotes biker and rickshaw refueling safety to its customers and has launched a safety campaign titled “Ehtiyaat Bunay Hifaazat” (precaution means protection) to raise awareness among 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers about the dangers of remaining seated on their vehicles while fueling.
Representatives from Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) attended an industry-level event to collaborate and progress.
There are approximately 25 million “2-wheeler” users and one million “3-wheeler” users in Pakistan. In the last five years, an estimated 2,000+ fueling incidents involving the above said vehicles have been reported in the industry.
It is critical for bikers and rickshaw drivers to dismount before fueling their vehicles. This practice significantly reduces exposure to gasoline vapours while refueling, lowers the risk of injury, and provides time to react in the event of an incident.
Waqar Siddiqui, Chief Executive & Managing Director of Shell Pakistan Limited, said at the event:
“Safety of our staff and customers is of utmost priority. We have embarked on a journey to create awareness about the safety risks while fueling. Many a time it is not an easy dialogue, nevertheless it is an important one. We have learnt from other countries who have been able to inculcate these practices. Shell Pakistan is keen to bring about this mindset and behavior change amongst people and to help drive this industry change.”
