Shahid Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan, has spoken out in favour of the resumption of bilateral cricket between the two countries, which has been put on hold for more than 10 years owing to political tensions between the two neighbours.
Afridi told the reporters that bilateral cricket has always mended ties between the bitter rivals and that Indians are eager to watch Pakistan play in their nation.
It’s not as if we don’t have hosting rights and we’re appealing to host it, the former all-rounder remarked in reaction to the Indian Cricket Board’s unwillingness to send its squad to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), according to Shahid Afridi, has given Pakistan the right to host the event, and if it is moved to a neutral location, Pakistan would be the first side to withdraw.
After BBCI Secretary Jay Shah declined to send the Men in Blue to Pakistan for the next 50-over Asia Cup 2023, which is slated to take place there in September of next year, the relationship between the PCB and BCCI further worsened.
Jay Shah stated to the media last month that choosing a neutral location for the Asia Cup was not unusual and that they had made the decision not to visit Pakistan. We’ll play in a neutral location, I’ve decided.”
