Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s 23rd prime minister, offered a large relief package for public and private sector workers shortly after his election.
Shahbaz Sharif, the joint candidate of the Opposition and PML-N President, was elected Prime Minister on Monday with 174 votes.
The prime minister-elect announced a 10% pay hike for government employees earning up to Rs100,000 per month during his address to the session.
He also announced that from April 1, the pensions of retired civil and military personnel will be increased by 10%.
Meanwhile, he declares that the minimum pay for workers will be raised to Rs. 25,000 per month.
Shehbaz took the stage and praised Almighty Allah for his innumerable favors.
He stated that Almighty Allah had protected the country, which he attributed to the tireless efforts of the unified Opposition’s leaders.
The premier stated that this was the first time in Pakistani history that a prime minister has been removed by a no-confidence motion.
He called it a “historic day” and said that people’s happiness can be measured by economic statistics.
Shehbaz stated that the currency had regained its value, having traded at Rs. 190 per dollar yesterday and closing at Rs. 182 today.
“Imran Khan was the person who said that when rupee gains Rs1 against the US dollar then the prime minister of the country is a corrupt person now he should see that the rupee has recovered around Rs8,” he said.
He praised the Supreme Court’s “unanimous” decision, declaring that the day the apex court handed down its decision should be remembered as a “historic day” in Pakistan’s history.
